The Garden

Artist Statement

In recent years, I have become increasingly interested in environment and the plastic nature, plastic flowers and plastic procreation of our consumer culture. "The Garden," is an artificial nature one can enter. A quilt of floral dresses covers the ceiling and walls, creating a canopy for the garden growing beneath. Floors are flooded with blossoms and bunny rabbits, rugs of stuffed animals, skinned and sewn together. A floral love seat sits among clusters of consumer commodities that seem to have grown over every square inch of surface. Lamps are encrusted with plastic daisies. Tall bunny rabbits centaurs smothered in fake flowers and stand guard. "The Garden" centers around ideas of artificial beauty and images associated with fertility and funerary rites.

Kenji Toma

I like flowers like you all probably all ready know, so here a again some flowers. Shot by Kenji Toma, I like the fact that there's something happening with the flowers but that they still have this powerful strength and esthetic beauty.

Poppy

Like you probably already noticed from my background I love Poppies.
There just beautiful in how the look, move and what they symbolize.
I found a very special poppy tattoo on the internet.
I was looking for how people and if people get poppies tat's.
And the answer is yes but most of them I don't like at all.
Except for this one this one I like.

She's like me

The work of Natalie Biryuchenko really has some similar works as I'm working or worked on. But then better.
The leg shots are really inspiring for my walk of the day shots. The flower shots are just amazing because of the fact I adore flowers.
And the drowning photo, has sort of the same feeling as mine.
By seeing her work, I can see how I can improve my own work. She a artist that really stands close to what I want to achieve with my photography skills at the moment.

Buds

When I came by the website of Marcel van der Vlught.
Of course me as a flower lover, immediately saw the Bud Serie.
He didn't make all the photo's at once, but the serie developed through the years. The first one was taken in 1991 and the last ones were taken in 2001.
This way of creating a serie, is a very inspiring way of working. I like the fact how it develops through the years but still stays a coherent serie.
